Nina Olson, former US taxpayer advocate and head of the Center for Taxpayer Rights, suggests the delay serves to shield the administration from scrutiny regarding the tax legislation. Critics argue the law prioritizes benefits for wealthy Americans and large corporations over middle-class relief, despite public messaging from IRS chief executive Frank Bisignano framing the act as historic support for working families.
An analysis from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy corroborates these concerns, noting that corporate giants like Meta, Amazon, and Tesla have seen their effective tax rates drop to between 0 and 8 percent under the new rules. While the administration highlights minor deductions for overtime and tips, researchers contend these provisions are eclipsed by broader policy shifts. According to Steve Wamhoff, federal policy director at ITEP, the net effect of these economic policies has been an increase in costs for most families, leaving only the top 1% with meaningful gains.
