Gaza School Strike Leaves Dozens Dead as Global Outrage Mounts

A seven-year-old girl, Ward Jalal al-Sheikh Khalil, was pulled from the smoldering ruins of the Fahmi al-Jarjawi School in Gaza City on Monday, the sole survivor of a strike that claimed the lives of her mother and five siblings among at least 36 people killed in the blast.

The school, which served as a refuge for displaced families, was transformed into an inferno during an Israeli airstrike. Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal described the scene as a massacre, noting that rescue teams were unable to reach those trapped by the intense heat. Paramedic Hussein Muhaysin, who assisted in the girl's rescue, stated that she was found in a state of catatonic shock, unaware that her family had been killed.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed conducting 200 strikes on Monday, claiming the school housed a command center for Hamas and Islamic Jihad, though no evidence was presented. Simultaneously, a separate strike in Jabalia flattened the Abdel Rabbo family home, killing 19 people. Recovery efforts there remain hampered by ongoing bombardment and drone activity.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has publicly denounced the military campaign, characterizing the actions in Gaza as a "war of extermination" driven by intentional government policy. Meanwhile, the Council on American-Islamic Relations has intensified calls for a permanent ceasefire, citing the mounting death toll among civilians and humanitarian workers. As the International Court of Justice continues to weigh allegations of genocide, local health officials estimate that over 190,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded since the start of the conflict.
